Tea reviews - conditions and other details

I will start publishing my opinions on various teas from time to time, while trying to approach the evaluation as neutrally and consistently as possible - we'll see how it goes.

I will start publishing my opinions on various teas from time to time, while trying to approach the evaluation as neutrally and consistently as possible - we'll see how it goes.

For each tea, I will provide the following parameters: vessel, amount of tea, water, temperature, rinse, steeping times, rating.

The variables common to all teas are as follows:

  • Vessel - houhin by Andrzej Bero 90ml
  • Water - tap water filtered through an Aquaphor pitcher
  • Rinse - a small portion of boiling water, poured out immediately

Oolong

  • Amount of tea - 6g/100g (I’ve been sticking to this ratio for a long time, I’d happily use a bit more, but it barely fits in the houhin anymore; I’ll use this ratio for all teas, except green ones)
  • Temperature - 100°C
  • Steeping times - 40-30-30-40-50-50… seconds

Green teas

… in preparation

I will stick to these variables in subsequent reviews (with the exception of steeping time and temperature, which may vary for different types of tea). I will assign ratings on a scale of 0-10; at first it will be somewhat arbitrary, but I hope it will become more balanced over time. On the site, I will group them in a more organized way, and I hope that eventually a small database will emerge that might be useful to someone.

Matcha Iri Sencha 2023 - Yuuki-Cha

It smells more like gyokuro, very sweet with umami notes. Since it's a fukamushicha, the leaves are quite fine and entirely coated with matcha.
